The Christmas decorating theme at the Jacobs' home is "All That Glitters!" I've always loved things that sparkle and shine so I decided that my Christmas decor would reflect that. In the past, I tried to use burgandy and gold throughout my Christmas decorating. Those colors seemed to match my everyday decor. However, after about 10 years of the same old style, the burgandy had to go. I have fallen in love with trying new styles and techniques. My favortie new thing?....Deco Poly Mesh! I can totally see myself over-decorating with this stuff. I purchsed a large roll at AC Moore. The color I was hoping to find was gold. But since this stuff has become so popular, the color choices were limited. I chose to try the white....and I'm so glad I did!
My very first faux fireplace!
I ahve always wanted to hang the stockings on the mantle of my own fireplace. Unfortunately my home doesn't have one....until now. I noticed a friend of mine had a faux fireplace and thought "what a great idea!" So I became a copy cat rather quickly.
Adding a personl touch....
Most people know that I love photography and studying genealogy. So I used both in my tree decorating. I scanned old photos of family members and edited them. I used the sepia coloring to accent golden hues and to tie into the golden theme. I then took very simple white and silver photo mats to use as frames for my photos. The photos were taped onto the back of the mats, a sparkly ribbon and floral accent was added to the top...and voila, a simple, inexpensive way to add that personal touch to your Christmas tree.
